No, we truly are a turn key company. We can supply the whole package from groundworks, drainage, erection of the frame, fitting off the roof timbers along with the roofing itself.
Generally we cover Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon, Dorset and Bristol, but can travel further afield if required.
There is never a set lead time, it usually depends on how busy we are, but generally speaking it can range from 8-12 weeks from the order confirmation to us being on site fitting your oak frame.
Generally we aim to get something back to you within 7-10 working days, depending on how big the project is.
Absolutely! If you have plans or a specification, we can make it in our workshop and ship it country wide for you to install with your own tradespeople.
An oak frame building will last for centuries if well maintained. The timber used in the construction of the frames is usually sourced from old growth trees, so they should last for generations. However, the roofing, cladding and siding may need replacing sooner depending on how exposed the building is to weather conditions.
Green oak is generally used for structural framing due to its ease of machining and tooling. Oak gets harder with age as it dries out, which poses more challenges. Because of the movement of green oak, it cannot be used for situations where movement needs to be kept to a minimum, such as cladding or for fascia boards.
In these situations, we use air dried oak, which has been stored in a covered dry area, outside, for number of years so it can naturally acclimatise to our environment. Air-dried oak tends to have greater dimensional stability compared to kiln-dried oak when used externally or in a natural environment. It will react less in the elements and remain resilient to environmental fluctuations. This stability is crucial for applications where precision and longevity are paramount.
Generally we use european oaks which is a totally sustainable resource. Forestry management schemes such as FSC® and PEFC are well established throughout Europe and beyond, ensuring that European Oak remains an entirely renewable resource.
Just like any kind of building, you will need to have planning permission from your local authority such as your town or city council. Approval of the construction will depend on the design of your plan and its impact on the local area.
However, smaller buildings, such as oak garages and similar buildings, may not require planning permission. Contact your local authorities for more information.
